Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rent Responsibly!

DSC02566Currently, I work in a wannabe posh penthouse floor in Beverly Hills. Trust me when I say this is far from as glamorous as I’d like it to be and thanks to my boss’ warped color sense and dated furniture, far from as modern as I’d like it to be as well. Horrible taste isn’t all that’s in the stone age around here. You would think that working in a prestigious area in liberal Los Angeles that our building would make an effort to be green and recycle. Not so much, sadly significant amounts of paper are wasted in this complex each day. One of the biggest culprits is the building office themselves; they send out redundant and pointless memos at least once a week which we must sign for. On top of their ridiculous memos, they hand deliver the rent bill and any other notifications. This is such a waste of employee time when all they need to do is send a simple email.

Well now they can. I came across PayYourRent.com which is an amazing paper saving solution for commercial and residential properties. Obviously my office and apartment building (don’t even get me started on them) could use this service. Now that I’m becoming a grown up, I like that the site has other options like: HOA dues, payment confirmation, rent status, maintenance requests, automatic payments, and even a “split with roommate” option.

Think about this:   If only 20 percent of the US rent-paying population opted for the paperless route and paid their rent online, this would conserve roughly:

  • 8 million pounds of paper
  • 140,000 trees
  • 112 million gallons of water
  • 8.25 million gallons of fuel

That’s pretty significant and and who doesn’t want to save tress and the environment? Not to mention, those cute kitten checks are so 1987. While I can’t do anything about my grandma office furniture, at least I can try to save the planet. It really is the little things that will aid making a real difference!

PayYourRent.com for more info.
