The Yummyness of Going Green: Organic Wine and Cupcakes

Amy and I had the pleasure of hanging out at Vert last Saturday with Josie Maran (read about about her natural cosmetic line’s newest launch here), and besides the oodles of eco-responsible beauty products available, they also happen to be serving organic wine and cupcakes. If there’s any better snack that wine and cupcakes, I’ve yet to find it – especially when it’s Frey Organic Wine and Luscious Organic Desserts.
Mendocino County -based Frey offers wines that are both organic, plus Frey’s was the first winery in the U.S. to be certified Biodynamic. Based on the principle of creating a farming system that is in harmony with the surroundings, Biodynamic farming nurtures and feeds the soil, recycles nutrients, and leaves the farm free from dependence on outside inputs. Some examples of how this pertains specifically to wine-making: all the grape waste is composted and the resulting compost is used in the vineyards, fruits are harvested by hand, and synthetic preservatives are prohibited. Read more about Biodynamic Winemaking at Frey here. And all these practices do make for some delicious wines! I tried three different kinds (they were small glasses, okay?) and they were all fabulous. Want to try for yourself? Get some bottles from their online shop.
If you happen to be at Coachella this year, you might have already tried some cupcakes from Lucious Organic Desserts as their booth was the place to be. Even celebs like Reese Witherspoon + Jakey Poo, Dita Von Teese, Jared Leto, and Alicia Silverstone stopped by. (See pics from the event here!) And were the cupcakes worth all the excitement? OF COURSE!! All of their treats, which also include cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, and even wedding cakes, are vegan and made with organic, unbleached and non-hydrogenated ingredients. They were giving away chocolate and strawberry cupcakes at Vert, and Amy and I give them a big thumbs up. (We had to make sure and have at least two, or maybe three, just to make sure.) I especially loved how they weren’t overly sweet and how the frosted cream was super rich and delectable. Special order them by calling (949) 378-7102. And make sure to check their blog to see what events they’ll be at so that you can try them out! I could so use one right now…
