A glacial of a facial

Submitted by LAPretty on May 27, 2009 – 2:47 pmNo Comment

While we’re all sad about global warming, icebergs melting, and polar bears drowning. There is one detail to all this drama that’s not bad at all: glacial mud!

Lauren Padawer, Founder

This just aint any ‘ol typical mud, it’s enriched with naturally occurring minerals and organic ingredients. The Alaska Glacial Mud Co. scoops up mud from the banks of the mighty Copper River in Southcentral Alaska one 5-gallon bucket at a time. Their filling up from the glacial silt that is annually deposited by the river at a rate of 100 million tons per year. The mineral composition of this mud is more diverse than any known mud depisition in the world due to the diversity of volcanic and sedimentary rocks fround within the watershed. The area where the AK Glacial Mud crew is gathering this mud is nearly 69,000 kilometeres or about the size of West VA. map1

The company takes this luscious glacial goodness and fortifies it with other organic skin soothing ingredients from the Pacific Northwest to create the only USA-made glacial mud masque on the market. I’ve tested out this product a few times and it reflects an incredibly earthy texture and scent. When applying the mud with the recommended brush, you don’t need to glob it on. I left it on my face for  about 15 minutes and it didn’t feel bothersome, itchy, or too tight. The masque’s ingredients feel as though they are seeping into my skin and making it brighter and better.  The mud easily washes clean, and my face was left radiant and felt more nourished. I’t seems those unique glacial ingredients actually do work.

You can get around 20 applications per jar if you’re using the brush recommended for it which is only $6. The masque is available in three three-jars-with-brush-72dpivarieties: original (unscented), lavender-peppermint, and vanilla-lavender, all of which are $34.00 for 3.5 oz.  When you do the math that comes to $40 for 20 at home spa treatments. That’s not too shabby considering this is a glacial sized facial suitable for ALL skin types.
