Calling all makeup junkies: The IMATS are this weekend!

Submitted by LAPretty on June 16, 2009 – 4:34 pmNo Comment

imatThis weekend is BIG for makeup junkies as the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) is happening in Pasadena. Open to both the pros and the public, this is the place to find new product releases, tips, and the new trends makeup artists the world over are excited about. Thousands of makeup artists, manufacturers, and fans will be there so if you’d ever thought about a career in makeup, definitely check it out.

Among the top artists at the IMATs will be makeup effects artist Greg Cannom. He just won an Oscar for his work on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and he’s also worked on Pirates of the Caribbean, Titanic, and Dracula. Joel Harlow and Barney Burman who did the makeup for the new Star Trek will also be there, plus another Oscar-winning makeup artist Dick Smith (Amadeus, The Godfather, The Exorcist and Taxi Driver) will be giving demos as well.

There will also be a student makeup competition divided into the themes of gothic beauty and the X-Men: students will race against the clock to create winning looks for cash prizes. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!!

And let’s not forget all the makeup! Here’s a short selection of the many new product launches:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics will be launching two new colors of their smash hit new product ‘Lip Tar.’  Introduced in March, it quickly became a top seller. A hybrid between a lipstick and a gloss, it is intensely pigmented, goes on smooth and glossy and dries down to a long-wearing satin finish.
  • Hakuhodo USA is introducing their new “Powder & Liquid Brush.”  This brush is used for spreading liquid or cream foundation on the entire face evenly and is easy to use.
  • Make-up Designory is introducing seven new eye shadows and two new cheek colors. Bronzed, Brownstone, Cajun Spice, Canyon, Daisy, Tinsel and Voodoo Eye shadows, as well as cheek colors – Gingerbread and Pumpkin – will be on display and for sale at the show.

Tickets in advance are only $15 for a one day pass, and $65 for a two day all access pass. Plus, if you take Dad with you on Father’s Day, he’ll get in for free!

Saturday, June 20 from 8:30-5; Sunday June 21 from 10-5. For more info, go to www.makeupartistshow.com.
