Detox Day 13: Eating is overrated
So I haven’t posted since day 7, I’m sure most of you think I gave up on the whole thing (I would think the same thing too!). But no, I’m still a Martha’s Vinyard Detox champion! If you asked me on day 3, deep in the midst of caffiene, sugar, junk food withdrawal, if I would make it a whole three weeks just eating veggie juice and soups, and I would have said you were nuts. In fact you can even see in my earlier posts how I was going to try to make it seven days “and then see.” Lucky for me, I have my faithful reader of LA Pretty to think about, so no! I’m not going to give up!
I wake every morning with a shot of delicious goji berry juice and some water, perhaps a cup of tea. And then mid-morning I have a superfood green drink from Odwalla or Evolution and I’ll sometimes mix some Garden Greens SuperFood in with it. And I keep drinking my water all day (a very easy thing to do since I have constant dry mouth and am always thirsty), until my little bit of soup at night. I’m a bad girl and don’t do the recommended VegeSplash and only one or two of those green powdered drinks a day because they’re all gross and I’d rather have vege/fruit juice combos that taste good and fill me up. I figured the powdered drinks are there to keep me from being hungry, and since I’m never hungry I can forfeit a lot of them. Many MV detox devotees would probably disaprove but whatever, I haven’t chewed in 13 days and I feel awesome so I must be doing something right.
And yes, you read right, I’m never hungry. It’s weird, I know. My stomach must be the size of a pea. I still crave nachos, fried chicken, and burritos, but it’s quieting down. Now I’m thinking more about the long run, how I’m going to treat my body when it’s all over. It’s kind of like if you spend all day cleaning and organizing your closet so that it looks like it’s straight out of an issue of Real Simple, you’re probably going to put in the extra effort to maintain it’s pristine appearance, at least for a little while.

That’s how I’m feeling about my body. I’ve made a big effort to clean out all the crud leftover from my bad habits, the obsessing on coffee, soda, eating something that came out of a box at least twice a day, etc. So I’m not going to back to eating the way I was before. Plus, it’s amazing how little I have to eat to feel good. Something I notice a lot when I’m out at dinner with people is how much I hear “I shouldn’t have eaten that whole thing.” Oh, I’ve been there.
This all sounds great right? Well I’ll be honest with you – this suuuuucked at first. I mean really, really sucked. I don’t know if I can emphasize truly how much it sucked. And I’m very glad I’m in the home stretch. I’ve got only nine more days to go and I’ve lost 14 pounds so far (7 more until I reach the “21 pounds in 21 days” mark). But I’m so glad I did this and I’m insanely proud of myself.

This is just nuts! I tried a detox once, convinced myself it was making me sick and stopped immediately. Turns out I actually DID have bronchitis, but let’s be honest, it had NOTHING to do with the detox program
Anyway, nice job. This makes me want to try it…kinda!
Good for you, but fried chicken is not safe with me alone in a room. 13 days, huh? That’s pretty amazing.
By the way, this new website rocks!!! I’m jealous. You West Coast L.A. Pretties sure know how to be one step ahead of the rest of us.
This is a beautiful site.
Best wishes!
