Flow over to Rising Lotus Yoga

Submitted by LAPretty on April 26, 2009 – 5:38 pmOne Comment

We’re all about staying lean and fit over at LA Pretty, especially with yoga. Recently, I attended an uplifting class that brought back my vinayasa at Rising Lotus Yoga. It was a mixed level flow taught by the stunning Michelle Goldstein.

Having been absent from practicing for a few weeks, it was fantastic to enter the serene yoga space tucked off Ventura Blvd. The staff and other yogini’s were very frieyogaclassndly, unlike other LA spots that from tight cliques. I of course brought my Yoga Paws and Tappening to stay hydrated for the hour and half course. The class was quite full which allowed the room to generate heat quickly. Rising Lotus Yoga doesn’t have mirrors on any of their walls; which I actually liked because I don’t need others to see me fall out of crow pose. The class was solid and emphasis was placed on breathing while going through vinyasa and other sequences at your own pace. No need to worry about keeping up; also, it’s easy to close your eyes and not stress when balancing on one foot with the serene background music.

I’ve taken many yoga classes, and found Michelle’s method of teaching is fabulous. Even though this was a mixed level course, I found the moves calming yet challenging. Michelle has studied and practiced with many inspiring teachers including: Matthew Cohen, Saul David Raye, Max Strom, Janet Stone, Shiva Rea, and Erich Schiffmann.

She states on her website, “My classes offer a safe, challenging and supportive environment for students to come open their hearts and minds- pushing past physical and mental boundaries, all the while emphasizing vinyasa (breath linked with fluid movement) and bhakti (loving spiritual devotion).”

This being said, if you’re located around Sherman Oaks(I’m not, but always up for trying to places) you should put Michelle and Rising Lotus Yoga on your radar.

Mon 12:15pm – 1:15pm lunch flow (mixed level)
