Looking for a non-toxic deodorant? Don’t sweat it!

Submitted by LAPretty on May 26, 2009 – 4:03 pm3 Comments

lavanilaCleaning out all the beauty products that contain harsh chemicals and toxins has been pretty fun and easy. I love discovering new brands that work just as well, while not containing something I don’t want anywhere near my body. Except for deodorant – that has been no easy feat!

After reading about how traditional deodorants and antiperspirants contain harsh chemicals like parabens and aluminum, I thought twice about rubbing the stuff under my arms – an area that’s right next to my lymphatic system. Ick. So I switched to Tom’s of Maine and everything was right in the world. That is, until I noticed a few days later that my underarms had exploded into tiny red bumps. I don’t know what happened exactly except that my shaving cream, shaving and Tom’s deodorant did not mix well at all. So Tom’s went into the trash. Then I found a wonderful-smelling lemon deodorant from Avalon Organics. Oh, did it smell wonderful. That is, until the afternoon when I smelled like I had just returned from a long camping trip (i.e. pretty gross). Now I can see why that deodorant was discontinued. Into the trash that went as well.

And here’s when we get to our happy ending because I’ve found what I’ve been looking for: a deodorant that’s healthy, non-toxic and works. Lavanila Laboratories’ Healthy Deodorant is not only 100% natural, aluminum and paraben-free, non-irritating, and freshly scented – it lasts all day, even through my sweat-filled exercise class.  Available in four scents, this deodorant is my new must-have (especially as the weather gets warmer). I especially love how it doesn’t rub off on my clothes and doesn’t irritate my delicate underarm skin that I’m always frantically running a razor across. (You know those mornings when you’re late, in a tank topk, and realize that your underarms need some landscaping, but don’t have the time to properly do it.)deo-sm

Because it contains soothing aloe vera along with Japanese Honeysuckle, a known anti-inflammatory, no more rashy red bumps for me! And I also like that it includes anti-oxidant rich Goji Berry, and Lichen, Lemon, and Tea Tree Oils for their anti-bacterial properties. It’s even gotten Sephora’s Natural Seal. So if you’re looking for a healthy alternative to toxic-filled deodorants, this is definitly something you should try.

Available at Sephora.com or a Lavanila.com.

Thanks for the review. I’m going to have to try this stuff. Toms of Maine never worked for me.

I’ve always been suspicious of natural deodorants– but this one I’ll have to try! I like that you included your trials and tribulations first, too. It saves me from doing the exact same thing!

You are a life saver. I’m deffinitely buying this stuff. My deoderants always seem to be too harsh on my skin, and I always have those annoying red bumps. This sounds like a miracle though(: thank you so much for doing this deoderant investigation haha.
