Vichy & CVS want your close-up!
Skin care and LA go hand in hand, so Vichy choosing the SLS Hotel as their destination to debut new products was the perfect match. Prior to attending this event I wasn’t at all familiar with Vichy products. That obviously changed fast!
I learned that Vichy is huge in Europe and Canada, so as with all other trends
it takes awhile for brands to really break into the US marketplace. Their line seems to fall into the “mass-tiege” category, meaning it’s more affordable than department store brands but more costly than plain drugstore lines. However, you’re paying for quality without the fancy packaging that most higher-end lines tend to have. Everything is formulated in Vichy, France, a small town outside of Paris known for their Vichy water which is a pivotal ingredient in each product. The brand focuses on face care and making products that work for various skin types and ethnicities.
While at the event Nicole and I were shown raw cosmetic ingredient materials and had the opportunity to compare Vichy to anonymous mass market and department store brands – of course Vichy came out on top. The highlight of the event was getting our skin analyzed through a machine that magnifies pores and every imperfection you might have. This was necessary to see if there was any sun damage, age spots, or dryness that we couldn’t see through our naked eye. Lets just say most of the images were horrific as you can see in our photos.
The reps for Vichy had solutions to aid in our woes, but the best part is that this technology is making its way to a CVS near you. Yes, seriously. Along
with CVS launching their Beauty 360 shops (think an affordable Sephora inside your local CVS), select stores will have a Healthy Skin Care Center with a trained Beauty Adviser that will have access to the exact same software that Vichy used to examine our skin. These advisers are being trained by various cosmetic brands to be familiar with their lines. For instance, Vichy will of course be training all advisers on their products and what suits specific of skin types. So after you have your own horrific magnifying experience you can swoop up some affordable skin care and get to work on those pores. For those super anal about their skin they can return to their local CVS to get it reanalyzed to see improvements. Vichy counts on customers doing this because they have pure confidence in their products; I’m not so sure other brands will be behind this idea. After all, the skin care market is so over saturated with crap, that it’s about time a company stepped it up to prove their brand can deliver real results. Thank you Vichy and CVS for keeping it real!
