Love at Malandrino’s Maison

While I may not have made it to the other Legends of La Cienega events, I did manage to swing by their finale at Catherine Malandrino’s Maison. Besides, there’s no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than at Catherine Malandrino’s house for an outdoor fashion show. Her shop was literally flooded with a posh crowd. Everyone was eager to see what Malandrino would be wearing and watch her courtyard show which was encored by a Panel Discussion on Pop Design in Fashion.

She came out in the radiant outfit to the left looking absolutely spectacular. As you can see the show was full of summer dresses in bright hues, perfect for Los Angeles! TheĀ  “I heart Paris” sequin mini-dress drew applause from the audience. The show concluded with each model rockin’ Malandrino’s signature American flag look.

The Pop Design in Fashion discussion started promptly after the show. Malandrino was joined by: Interior Designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard (pictured in gallery below next to Brittany), Editor in Chief of Angeleno Magazine Degen Pener (pictured above), and Fashion and Style Producer of Extra TV Brittany Weinstein (pictured below in gallery, red dress).

When asked about pop art inspirations Malandrino referenced Jasper Jones and Steven Sprouse. A huge portion pop art is the emphasis of bold messages and making them stand out. Pop art as it correlates with fashion still carries that mantra. It also allows the designer to use playful dimensions and of course craftsmanship is pivotal. Lawrence-Bullard brought up Warhol and Litchenstein. He also let us know about his latest design project which was for Sir Elton John and his partner inside their new LA abode. The home will be filled with chrome furniture against emerald green walls. I think that actually sounds gorgeous!

When Malandrino was asked about her inspiration she had one answer: LOVE. She puts love into all of her collections and absolutely loves making clothes to flatter a woman’s body.

Best of all when questioned about doing a line for a major retailer (I.E. Target), both Malandrino and Lawrence-Bullard said they’d LOVE to! Well, I’d LOVE to buy it!
