Food, Inc. Opening Event Tomorrow
Want to really know where you food comes from? Books like Fast Food Nation and The Omnivore’s Dilemma make for some gut-wrenching, lifestyle-changing enlightenment on how our diets have changed dramatically in the past century. And now a new documentary called Food, Inc also takes a peek at the big business behind America’s food. It included interviews with both the authors of the above books (Eric Schlosser and Michael Pollan, respectively) along with entreprenuers that are working hard to change for the better they way our highly-mechanized food industry works.
Tomorrow is the film’s opening night at the Landmark Nuart Theater (11272 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles) hosted by TakePart.com, SocialVibe.com, CauseCast, and GOOD. Opening night will also feature an opportunity for you to take immediate action by signing the petition for the Child Nutrition Act reauthorization and stop junk food and sodas from entering our schools. (Seriously, giant PEPSI machines in the locker room?? How’s that teaching kids how to stay healthy after gym class?) People who sign will be entered into a raffle, where they can win one of five gift baskets featuring a $50 gift certificate for Ciudad Restaurant, session with celebrity nutritionist Haylie Pomroy, In Defense of Food signed by Michael Pollan, GOOD Magazine subscription and back issue, Participant Media DVDs, Angels & Demons soundtrack signed by composer Hans Zimmer, and other goodies from co-hostsTakePart, SocialVibe, GOOD Magazine, and Causecast.
Screening: Food, Inc. Friday, June 12, 7:30 p.m. & 9:50 p.m.
